Avital Shira is the Director of Campus Engagement for the Office of the Associate Vice Provost for the Arts. She is also a lecturer in the School of Literature, Media, and Communications at Georgia Tech, the Director of Strategy and Engagement for Creative Re/Frame, and the Strategic Director for IDEA Con, the largest student innovation and entrepreneurship conference in New England. Previously, Avital taught at Tufts University and Boston University. She also led community engagement strategy in Colorado for the Markle Foundation's Skillful initiative and spent six years traveling the United States, directing and assistant directing in cities all around the country. She is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and was named Best Director at the 2012 Portland Outdoor Shakespeare Festival for her production of Twelfth Night. Avital graduated from the MFA Directing and Arts Administration certificate programs at Boston University and holds a degree in Theatre Studies and English literature from Yale University.

Jason Freeman

Associate Vice Provost for the Arts

Jason Freeman is the interim Associate Vice Provost for the Arts. He is also the Chair and a professor in the School of Music. Previously, Freeman chaired Georgia Tech's Arts Council and served as Executive Director of Sonic Generator, an ensemble-in-residence that showcased technology-infused contemporary chamber music. His music has been performed at Carnegie Hall, exhibited at ACM SIGGRAPH, published by Universal Edition, broadcast on public radio's Performance Today, and commissioned through support from the National Endowment for the Arts. His work has attracted funding from the National Science Foundation, Google, Amazon, and has been referenced in more than 100 books, chapters, journals, and conference publications. Jason received a B.A. in music from Yale University and his M.A. and D.M.A. in composition from Columbia University.

Joe Davis has 20 years of experience in audio production. Prior to joining the staff full-time, he worked on a freelance basis at the Ferst Center since 2010. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Music Performance, Magna Cum Laude, and completed post-graduate training in audio engineering from the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe, Arizona, in 2008.

Justin Camp has eight years of experience in stage lighting. Before joining the Georgia Tech staff full-time, he worked with a contractor providing stage services for the Ferst Center. Andrea Mullen comes to Georgia Tech after living in Los Angeles for 5 years acting and working in restaurants and libraries. She was previously a House Manager at Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. She is glad to be back working around people again! Andrea is a native of Greenville, SC and holds a B.A. in Drama from Catholic University of America and a Masters in Library Science from Pratt Institute.

Adriana joins Georgia Tech Arts all the way from Puerto Rico with a BFA in Production Design and a concentration in Lighting and Scenery from the Savannah College of Art and Design, a certification in Arts and Heritage Management, and over five years of experience across theatre, live entertainment, and higher education. Art, in its many forms, is at the core of everything she does and she is elated to be able to pursue her passion for making art accessible to everyone.

Britt Mahan joins the Georgia Tech Arts team after over a decade in arts management. Originally from Louisville, KY, she holds a BFA in Theatre and a BS in Sociology from Northern Kentucky University. Her passion for developing performing arts experiences pushed her to receive an MFA in Theatre as well as an MBA from the University of Alabama. Since moving to Atlanta, she has worked for the Woodruff Arts Center and SCAD in the pursuit of increasing arts access to all.
