Step into a theatrical, wild, and fantastical epic that bends the rules of time, space, and gender. Based on Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece—famously described as the “longest and most charming love letter in literature,” written for her lover, Vita Sackville-West—this enchanting stage adaptation by Sarah Ruhl brings a classic literary romance vividly to life.

The story follows Orlando, a passionate and wealthy young nobleman who catches the eye of an aging Queen Elizabeth I and becomes a favorite of the royal court. Imbued with a mysterious immortality, Orlando’s adventures stretch across centuries. He survives a devastating heartbreak during the Great Frost of London, flees to Constantinople as an ambassador to escape his troubles, and falls into a deep, days-long sleep.

Upon waking, Orlando discovers a breathtaking transformation: he is now entirely a woman.

Unfazed and forever adaptable, Orlando navigates the next several centuries as a woman, trading her doublet for Victorian corsets and facing the evolving expectations of society. Traveling through countless epochs and into the 20th century, she must learn to sort out her existence, her art, and her identity in a rapidly changing world.

Using a swift, engaging chorus and Sarah Ruhl’s signature lyrical style, this imaginative production utilizes instant, whimsical transformations to explore what it means to love, to change, and to be truly alive.
