GT Symphony Orchestra is currently offered as chamber groups for string players. Through rehearsing, coaching, recording, and performing, student musicians are exposed to a wide variety of chamber literature from the Classical through Contemporary periods, with an emphasis on under-represented composers.

Recently named as music director of the North America New Opera Workshops, dynamic conductor Chaowen Ting is a passionate advocate of new music and living composers. In addition to actively commissioning and premiering new works, Ting is known for her commitment to promoting women composers and conductors. Equally at home in the symphonic realm and opera houses, Ting was conducting fellow of The Dallas Opera's Hart Institute for Women Conductors. She has conducted through the U.S. and Europe, including the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Strings, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Ting is founder of Girls Who Conduct, an initiative working to achieve gender parity on the podium. She currently serves as conductor of the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra.
