Atlanta Design Festival, Atlanta Art Week, Atlanta Art Fair Open to Tech Community

An upcoming trio of distinct, local arts and design events around Atlanta will strongly feature Georgia Tech students and faculty. The campus community is invited to join the Atlanta Design Festival, Atlanta Art Week, and the Atlanta Art Fair, happening concurrently Sept. 28 - Oct. 6.  The Institute is a cultural partner for each of the three events,demonstrating how Tech is weaving the arts into the fabric of a Georgia Tech education and experience.

Jason Freeman, interim associate vice provost for the Arts, said, “The arts at Georgia Tech are thriving across campus through co-curricular activities, academic programs, research engagements, and collaborations with incredible artists, arts organizations, and creative industry partners" "We are thrilled to celebrate and share some of this innovative work through our participation in these seminal community events.”

Atlanta Design Festival runs Sept. 28 - Oct. 6, with events across metro Atlanta and centered in the Old Fourth Ward. The College of Design will continue its multi-year collaboration with the festival, as students, faculty, and alumni from Tech share their work and experiences at the DesignStation base for exhibitions, and during the festival's signature event —  the 2024 Creative Futures Conference[JF1] . Ingeborg Rocker, professor in the School of Architecture, is a featured speaker for the conference, themed around the challenge, “Now That You Know, What Will You Do?”

Georgia Tech will also host festival guests Oct. 5 for an architecture-focused tour of the Reck Garage, which houses and displays the Ramblin' Wreck near the center of campus. 

Atlanta Art Week | Panel Discussion

The third annual Atlanta Art Week celebration Sept. 30 - Oct. 6 includes partnerships with a number of Atlanta colleges and universities, with all events free and open to the community.

Georgia Tech will host a panel discussion about the intersection of art and technology on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 5:30 p.m. at The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design auditorium. Titled Reimagining Creativity: a conversation about AI, data, and robotics in art, panelists include Bojana Ginn, artist-in-residence; Noura Howell, assistant professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication; and Samuel Thurman, MS Architecture 2024. The discussion will be moderated by Jason Freeman. 

The Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking at the Renewable Bioproducts Institute on campus will also celebrate the opening of its new exhibit, Build It: Cardboard Construction, on Wednesday, Oct 2,  4 - 7 p.m., which runs Sept. 16 – Dec. 9, 2024.

The Institute will have a cultural partner booth at the inaugural Atlanta Art Fair Oct. 3-6 at Pullman Yards, including work on display by faculty, students, and community members, to illustrate our presence at the creative intersection of art and technology.
