The Spirit of the Animals is in the Wheels

Fantastic Creatures on Wheels Visit Campus

October 18, 2017

Atlanta, GA

Imagine an aluminum bison trundling across Tech Walkway! The Office of the Arts, in partnership with creative agency Dashboard, brings to campus two pedal-powered beasts created by artist and author Dave Eggers and metal artist Juan Martinez October 27-November 11. The sculptural metal cycles, part of a mini-herd of human-powered vehicles, bridge the natural world to the world built by human ingenuity.

Dave Eggers is an American writer and artist. Trained as a painter, Eggers’ artworks have been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, the Nevada Museum of Art, the Biennial of the Americas, and numerous other galleries and art spaces. Eggers has won the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the TED Prize, and has been a finalist for the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. His books include The Circle, What is the What, and Heroes of the Frontier.

Juan Martinez is a Detroit metal artist who creates fantastical, functional creations. His work has been shown in galleries, museums and out on the streets in Detroit, Austin, New Orleans, and beyond.
